Virginia Beach’s inshore fishery has been predictably good for early season fishing featuring bluefish, flounder, speckled trout, croaker, spot and puppy drum. Taylor blues of 3 to 5 pounds are taking drag inside area inlets while lots of feisty small to medium size flounder are available for catch and release. Inside Rudee and Lynnhaven Inlets savvy and patient flounder fishermen have been rewarded with some fish well over 20 inches. Minnows, squid and ¼-oz. and ½-oz. jigs coupled with chartreuse and white swim-tail baits are top producers. Artificial shrimp in the New penny (copper) color is also hot. Bay flounder fishing has not yet hit its stride compared to the warmer shallow water inside the inlets. Some keeper flounder have been boated at the “curve” of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, just south of the third rock island. Try strips of mullet for puppy drum and squid for the croaker. (more…)

Flanked by palm trees and brightly colored surf boards announcing some of the park’s many sponsors, it’s eye-catching and just a fun place to spend the afternoon. The whitecaps on the Atlantic make a spectacular backdrop for the slides and monkey bars and especially for a row of telescopes on the top level which point out to the depths.
