Ocean Kayaking at its Best

three kayaksIt was a beautiful morning to go ocean kayaking and, while there was no guarantee we’d get close to them, things already looked promising for us as we could see dolphins playing about 100 yards off the beach. I was excited.

 Our group of six mostly first-time kayakers met our tour guides, Tyler and Trey, two watermen from Chesapean Outdoors on the beach at 57th Street at the Wyndham Hotel.

Don’t Flounder Around – Go Fish!

3483166534-sheepshd (2)Anglers walking the planks at the Sandbridge, Virginia Beach, Lynnhaven and Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel fishing piers are catching a variety of saltwater fish that includes small spot, croaker, flounder, and roundhead or whiting.  Intermittent visits from Spanish mackerel and bluefish have also been providing excitement on the piers.  These same fish are making their presence felt in the surf zone.  Crabbing has been outstanding from the piers as well.

Runners and cyclists each have their own space on the VB Boardwalk

We are lucky in one way when running at the beach; there is always a breeze!  Some may say that is not an advantage in winter, but during the summer, let it blow!!!  One of my favorite places to run in the summer is at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.  The boardwalk is the best for those long summer runs because you have water stops every block and some even have showers for those who want to completely dowse themselves.
